How to profile your customers
How to profile your customers
Profiling your customers involves analysing your best customers to get to know them well so that you can duplicate your success by finding more customers like them.
You may have more than one profile for your best customers. For example, you may have a perfect customer who is 13 years old if you sell ice-cream as well as a 35 year old parent.
It’s important to distinguish between primary and secondary markets. For example, your 13 year old eats the ice-cream, but his mom and dad also love eating the ice-creams. These are both primary target markets. But if you sell kiddie’s cereal, your target market is the 4-7 year old and your secondary target market is his mom who only buys the cereal for the child but doesn’t eat it herself.
A customer profile will include everything you know about this ideal person in each segment:

When you can describe your customers using this kind of detail, you can safely say you know your customer.
Customer profiling helps you go after the same type of customer so that you don’t waste time and money chasing prospects who may never become your customers.
