How to start your own business

Are you ready to be an entrepreneur?

Some people just know that they want to be their own boss one day. But when is it the right time? Here are some factors to consider…

Entrepreneurship isn’t always a matter of choice!

If you’re sitting at home and can’t get a job, and you’ve got it in you, why not give entrepreneurship a bash?

Some young people were brave enough to decide they’re not going to wait around for corporates or government to get them a job, so they went out and made it for themselves, like DJ Black Coffee and Herman Mashaba.

A family tradition

If you parents ran a family business, you may want to continue this legacy. With mom and dad there to coach you and show you the ropes, this is a great way to venture into business.

When you stop learning!

If you’ve been in an industry or job for a while and know as much as the boss, or more, you may want to consider your own business where you will be challenged and can steer your own ship.

If you’re making it work on the side

The best business to start is one based on your hobby! If you like sewing, cooking, baking, writing and are making it work on the side, there’s no reason why you couldn’t make a full-time job out of it.

When you understand the risks of owning a business

You will have to make huge decisions that have monetary consequences and take risks. If you understand what’s really at stake, then you’re ready to start your own

When you have enough experience

Starting a business takes a lot of know-how. The more experience you can get under your belt, the better equipped you will be to run a successful business. This doesn’t mean that you can’t start your business when you’re young.

If you have an idea you are passionate about

If all you can think of is how to get your product or service to as many people as possible, you could be ready to start your own business. Just know that this doesn’t guarantee that your idea will work, just that you may be ready to start your own business.

These are the right reasons for starting your own business. You shouldn’t start your own business if you have a job but you hate it, or you hate your boss, or want to get into a different industry or career because you’re unhappy. These are not the right reasons to start a business because there are definite pros AND cons to starting a business.
