Want to start your own business but think you’re too young?
Starting your own business is definitely a big step in life, no matter how old you are. But if you are passionate about having your own business at a young age, then everything is possible if you create your own opportunities!
Benefits of starting a business later in life
The good thing about starting a business when you’re older is that you’ve had experience in one or more businesses that aren’t yours. You’ve been able to make mistakes that you haven’t had to pay for yourself. You’ve also learnt how to make money for others – what it takes, what works, what doesn’t etc.
Benefits of starting a business when you’re young
But the good thing about starting a business when you’re young is that you have less expenses when you’re single and possibly still live at home so you don’t have to aim for huge profits from day one. You can easily grow into your business and watch it expand organically.
You must have a product or talent that you are super passionate about if you want to start a business young. There is no substitute for passion so you’ve got the largest ingredient going for you already! Many times, older people start their own business for the wrong reasons. They’re fed up with bosses and commuting and late hours for someone else… This is hardly a reason to risk going solo. But if you have passion for something like DJing, dancing, sewing etc, you can make a business from it and make it work, at any age!
Youth in itself brings along its own benefits. Innovation is one of them. You’re slicker with technology, you think quicker on your feet, you’re more willing to take risks (although careful not to overdo this one), you have an awesome amount of energy and can make new contacts really quickly!
If you can start building your empire from a young age, you have a long time to prefect your business model and you can become a millionaire one day like these famous people that started their businesses when they were young: Justin Bieber and Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook.
But do you need to have money to make money?
That’s definitely not the case. You have to work hard, not let your ego get to you (so many people fail because of this) and grow with your business. These are some examples of people who came from no money and made themselves into millionaires: Ralph Lauren, Howard Schultz – founder of Starbucks and Oprah Winfrey.
If you know what you want and have a deep passion to make it on your own (independently), don’t follow the crowd, do your thing! No matter how old you are, you can make it work!
