5 Tips to turn your cold-calling campaign into sales

Cold-calling is becoming more and more frowned upon because large companies are abusing it. How many calls do you get per week offering you a new cellphone or credit card or something useless that you don’t need?

Well, you have the opportunity to make your cold-calling work for you, here’s how…

  1. Target your calls. If you’re phoning your customers to offer them an upgrade or another product similar to what they bought from you previously, make sure you know their purchase history and as much as possible about their relationship with your company.
  2. Know your customer: A Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system can be very helpful because it allows you to track what your customers have bought and communications with your company, so as to not annoy them.
  3. Offer an incentive. You’re phoning someone so you have to be offering something of value to them, not just expecting sale.
  4. Know the Consumer Act. The Act stipulates that customers have the right to a cooling off period after a sales call and to return the goods if they are not satisfactory.
  5. Keep testing. Just because it’s a call, doesn’t mean you can’t test pricing, the script, the guarantee period and other marketing elements.

Cold-calling can be very effective if done right. It’s a nice personal touchpoint to communicate with customers if you make it about them and not the sale. If you can get someone from your own company to do the call, it will come across more like a courtesy call than a sales call.
