How to incentivise your customers to buy
Gone are the days when you just placed something on the shelf and people bought it. There is so much choice these days and customers are so much more intelligent about their purchases, and value-sensitive, that companies that don’t incentivise their customers in some way are finding it difficult to compete in the market place.
Here are six ways you can incentivise your customers to buy your products:
- Offer discounts. Money is really tight for everyone, with the price of petrol climbing every year, electricity costs shooting up, the price of food hiking and the cost of living in general escalating the way it is. Customers are very price sensitive so unless your brand offers a unique benefit that the others don’t, customers will always choose the more affordable option. Effective discount messaging includes, half price, get 20% off and get R100 off.
- Create promotions. Buy three for two, get a free cap with your deodorant, get 20% off your next purchase, buy the product and be entered into a competition… These are ways to create incentives for your customers to buy your products.
- Free postage/shipping. People hate paying for delivery, it makes the product seem expensive if you add up all the different costs like shipping. If there is a way for you to absorb the shipping costs into the price, you could attract new customers.
- Support a charity. Another way to win the hearts of your customers is to support a worthy cause, for example, every purchase you make of product X, puts R2 into feeding the poor for instance.
- Personalise orders. If you sell wind for example, offer a personalised labelling service so that when restaurants or wedding parties order from you, they can have their brand on your label. It creates a different level of engagement for the customer.
- Offer a guarantee or warrant. Your product should just do what it says it will do but there are so many products on the market that don’t. For this reason, customers are sceptical to try new brands. But if you offer them some form of guarantee, you’re taking away the need for them to worry about spending their money because if it doesn’t work, they know they can return it or get it fixed for free.
Incentives are an effective way to boost sales for any business. Keep testing new incentives all the time to see what works best.
